The Nintendo Wii

Nintendo has been in the gaming business for years now. They know that gaming isn’t about High Definition graphics, shading technology or about any life-like graphics that wows the crowd on first sight. It is about fun. Through all these technological pursuits, console makers often forget the true essence of gaming.

What we have on the other consoles are familiar titles like Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed. These are classes of games that are violent – where only hardcore gamers or hobbyists are likely to be interested in. The Wii in contrast have many friendlier titles that have less culling and bloodshed, but just harmless fun. Games like their Mario series games are a perfect example. Protective parents are also mindful over violent themes. The Wii would immediately make a better choice.

Interactivity is also a very important factor when consider the Nintendo Wii.

Traditionally, Consoles are based on a gamepad. This tiny little pad with joysticks allow you to snuggle comfortably in one corner of your couch, pounding away the buttons in the heat of the game. While this may be acceptably interesting for some, it undeniably gets boring after a while. If it’s going to be a shooting game, it’s one button to shoot. If it’s going to be a action game, it’s the same few moves being performed with very similar combinations. It’s just those few buttons.

On the other hand, the Nintendo Wii has incorporated an interactive function into their console. Instead of just one little gamepad, you now have a remote with motion sensors, and a huge variety of add-ons which can be purchased separately. The motion sensors allow you to play games “realistically” like bowling (rolling the ball), golf (swinging the stick) and many more. Popular add-ons include the Wii Fit, a floor pad with four separate pressure pads. These allow you to follow fun-filled games with the console that will give you a workout at the same time. There are other things like microphones for singing games, a bow and arrow for archery, a gun for shooting games – the list goes on.

The Wii has such a large variety of fun interactive games that provides the entire family with harmless fun. It is affordable, the games are cheaper, and there are plenty of add-ons whenever you get bored. It isn’t portable like the Portable PlayStation, it doesn’t have superior technology compared to the Xbox or the PlayStation, and it doesn’t have the intricacies of a computer. But it has the single most important thing – the spirit of gaming.
